Visiting the Shrine of Imam Reza and My Memories of Iran
Between Turks and Iranians there is an unshakeable brotherhood going back thousands of years. The lands in which the Turkish Seljuk Empire was founded and grew are Iranian lands. There, Turks and Iranians, that is the Persians, formed a strong union, brought Anatolia into it in 1071, and maintained this brotherhood for centuries. The Seljuk state that developed in Iran came to Anatolia, founded the Anatolian Seljuk state here as well, and they lived together for many centuries. Only when we study the history of Iran and Turkey together can we establish the social connections and better understand the real truths.
It is clear that Seyyid Derviş Tur Dede, who made an exemplary effort in this matter and carried out what might be called field research, travelled to Iran himself and studied the structure of Iranian society and its religious and social life. I warmly congratulate Mr Seyyid Derviş Tur, who formed close ties with our Turkish and Persian brothers and sisters in Iran, studied them, and set down his observations and views in the form of written memoirs. With this work he becomes one of the first to lay the mortar of reality into the shared foundation of Turkish–Iranian brotherhood.
For this reason I offer my respects, in the hope that Mr Derviş TUR’s memoirs will be an exemplary starting point for those seeking the truth in this matter and for many of our “cans” (fellow believers) who will undertake research.
